Chapter - 2899

Zeke struggled to advance as he approached a location approximately thirty meters from the bustling Apex River. The immense surge of energy made it nearly impossible to proceed.

It seems like it's going to be hard getting near the river. However, something weird is going on here. Why is it so easy for Squirrel to go near the river? It seems like nothing is stopping it from getting near the river. Is it because Squirrel is a local in the ancient sector? Could Apex River be sentient and capable of repulsing certain beings? That could be it.

Right then, Quinlan arrived next to Zeke.

Not only did he have to constantly unleash energy to resist the death aura as he ran, but he was also parched. By the time he arrived next to Zeke, he was dog-tired.

Panting heavily, Quinlan said, “WWhat are you waiting for? L-Let's drink s-some water."

"Don't you feel something weird is going on?" Zeke asked.

Quinlan was baffled as he checked his surroundings. "What's weird? Is something not right?”

"Apex River has a strong repulsive force, and it's preventing us from getting near," Zeke replied.

Quinlan was puzzled. “Repulsive force? Why don't I feel anything?" He shut his eyes and tried detecting the anomalies around the environment. "Nope. I don't feel any repulsive force."

How could that be? Zeke looked at Quinlan in disbelief. "If that's the case, why don't you try moving forward?"

Quinlan took two steps forward.

Sure enough, Quinlan had no problem moving toward the river, and it didn't seem like there was a repulsive force.

Zeke was utterly confused. What the f*ck is going on? Why am I the only one sensing the repulsive force? How about Lacey? Did she sense a repulsive force?

Zeke wanted to ask Lacey if she could sense the repulsive force, but she was barely conscious. Upon seeing how distressed she was, he gave up on the idea.

He could no longer be bothered by the fact that he was the only one feeling the repulsive force. He ordered Quinlan, "Quick! Fetch me some water. Lacey can't hold on for much longer."

"Okay!" Quinlan casually walked toward the Apex River. "Instead of feeling a repulsive force, I think I can sense the river pulling me toward it...”

A pulling force from Apex River? Zeke looked at the Apex River carefully and suddenly noticed something wrong with it. Logically speaking, a river that big in a desert should have plants growing on both sides of the land. However, that's not the case here. Not a single plant is growing near it, and there isn't a sign of life nearby. Something fishy is definitely going on here. I'm sure there's something wrong with the river.

Before Zeke could warn anyone, Squirrel suddenly yelled, "Help! Help me! I-I'm getting sucked into the river!"

Huh? Zeke shuddered and quickly turned toward Squirrel.

At that moment, Squirrel was five meters from the river. A gust of unholy wind whirled within the river, enveloping Squirrel.

The gust of wind was pulling Squirrel into the river with incredible force.

Fortunately for Squirrel, it had teeth strong enough to bite onto a rock nearby. Although it could stop itself from getting sucked into the river, its body was suspended in mid-air, and it looked as though its body could be ripped apart.

“Save me! Help!" it shouted anxiously.

Seeing that, Quinlan uttered in a deep voice, "F*ck! I can't go near the river. If I stand too near to it, the pulling force will suck me into the river too."

"Mr. Hayes, retreat!" Zeke immediately instructed.

"Okay!" Quinlan made his way back with great difficulty.

Zeke unleashed his energy toward Squirrel, hoping that he could save its life.

However, the Apex River also repulsed his energy, and he was having trouble reaching Squirrel.

Evidently, Zeke's energy could only reach somewhere ten meters away from the river.
