Chapter - 5940

Although Tawana Sweet is the star of today's event, she has yet to make an appearance, and the upper-class attendees are primarily businessmen. Their focus is not on star-chasing but rather on generating profit.

Thus, the party revolves around discussions with Kelly West at the center. Deep down, these individuals are most eager to connect with Michaela Joules.

However, Michaela has consistently shown little interest in the entertainment industry. Despite numerous invitations from the head of the Mitsui family, she has remained unmoved.

Unexpectedly, although Michaela did not attend, two of her close friends showed up.

Furthermore, Kelly's treatment of Charlie and Claire clearly indicates a strong bond with Michaela, likely stronger than her own relationship with her.

Sasaki Miki stands in shock, unable to understand how Charlie could be a good friend of Michaela. Who is she? The Joules family, which manages trillions of dollars, pales in comparison to the head of the Mitsui family—whom she perceives as nothing more than a primary school student in terms of personal assets.

Remembering how she had just insulted Charlie and Claire, Miki felt a chill of fear as she worried about how Charlie might retaliate.

Meanwhile, Sasaki Sachiko, who typically embodies a peaceful demeanor, was also taken aback.

In contrast to her ambitious cousin Miki, who is consumed with social climbing and gaining status within the family and society, Sachiko desires nothing more than a tranquil life without ulterior motives.

Thus, when their family provided them with three invitations each, Miki meticulously evaluated all the elite contacts she knew and chose the top three to receive invitations. Sachiko, however, thought her good friend Loreen, who had always admired Tawana, deserved the first invitation.

Unbeknownst to Loreen, a multitude of unspoken rules surrounded this concert. Excited by Sachiko’s news, her first thought was to ask if Sachiko had any extra tickets to extend the invitation to other friends.

Sachiko was uncertain whom to give the remaining two tickets, so she entrusted Loreen with the decision for the last two spots as she expressed a desire to invite other friends.

However, she never anticipated that Loreen would invite two significant individuals with impressive backgrounds.

At that moment, Kelly stepped forward and lightly embraced Claire before respectfully bowing to Charlie. She then turned to Claire, her eyebrows raised in surprise, and asked, "Claire, when did you and Mr. Wade arrive in Tokyo?"

Claire responded, "We just got here yesterday. How about yourself?"

Kelly smiled, explaining, "I've been here for a few days, having come with Miss Joules."

She continued, somewhat in disbelief, "I never expected the world to be so small. Here I am, all the way from the United States to Japan, running into you and Mr. Wade! If I told Miss Joules, she’d probably think I was joking."

Claire sighed, "What a coincidence! I didn't expect to see you here."

Then Claire inquired, "By the way, Kelly, you mentioned Miss Joules is here too? Where is she?"

Kelly replied, "Miss Joules isn’t into chasing after celebrities, so she didn’t attend this party, nor does she plan to go to the concert tonight. However, if she knew you were here, I’m certain she would change her mind. I'll give her a call later."

Just then, a middle-aged man with glasses and a gentle expression approached, asking Kelly respectfully, "Ms. West, may I ask if these two guests are your friends?"

Kelly regarded the man, nodded slightly, and introduced him, saying, "Mr. Mitsui, let me introduce you. This is Mr. Wade, and next to him is Mrs. Wade. They are both good friends of Miss Joules and me."

She continued, "Mr. Wade, Claire, this is Mitsui Nagayasu, the vice chairman of the Mitsui family board of directors. Mr. Mitsui is overseeing the Tawana Tokyo concert."

From Kelly’s narrative, Mitsui Nagayasu grasped that these two individuals were not only close to Michaela, but were also significant figures in her life. Despite his efforts to invite Michaela to the party and concert, she declined. Kelly’s statement about Michaela changing her mind if she knew of their presence indicated a special connection.

Thus, without waiting for Charlie and Claire to speak, he respectfully introduced himself: "Mr. Wade, Mrs. Wade, I’m Mitsui Nagayasu. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Please take care of me!"

Although Charlie preferred to avoid mingling, he felt it polite to shake his hand and exchange a few courteous words.

Sasaki Miki became increasingly uneasy witnessing the vice chairman of the Mitsui family display such respect toward Charlie. She realized that mocking Charlie and his wife merely revealed her ignorance and left her feeling more apprehensive.

At that moment, an elderly man approached with a smile and addressed the still-baffled Sasaki Sachiko: “Sachiko, you haven't introduced these two guests to your grandfather. What are their names?”

The elderly gentleman was Taro Sasaki, Sachiko and Miki’s grandfather, who was at the helm of the Sasaki family and had a familial connection to the Mitsui family through his sister’s marriage. This relationship allowed them to count the Mitsui family as relatives.

Inside this elite circle, Taro Sasaki’s status was akin to that of his granddaughter Miki—marginalized and often overlooked. Yet, he did not anticipate that his usually unnoticed eldest granddaughter would attract two influential guests. He couldn't miss the chance to impress the upper echelon.

When Sachiko heard her grandfather's question and prepared to respond, Charlie interjected, "Sir, we're no distinguished guests. Just as Miss Miki mentioned earlier, I’m not here to burden you with conversation, so it’s best for us to step aside."

He then turned to Kelly with a smile, adding, "Kelly, you all continue your conversation. We’ll move to the corner over there and keep quiet for a while, to avoid interrupting everyone."

Kelly quickly suggested, “Mr. Wade, I’m not fond of overly lively gatherings. Why don’t we join you in the corner?”

Charlie nodded, smiling, “Let’s go over there to chat, then.”

As Charlie, Kelly, and the others turned to retreat to the corner, those left behind exchanged glances, with many casting suspicious looks toward the instigator, Miki Sasaki, who felt their scrutiny.

Sliding a glance toward her, Taro Sasaki queried sternly, “Miki! What just happened?! Why were you so disrespectful to Mr. Wade?!”

“I…” Miki stammered, panicking, “I didn’t know, grandpa... He never appeared so important, and I didn’t want him to infringe upon your time, so I accidentally said something wrong…”

Taro Sasaki scoffed, “In this day and age, you still judge a person's worth by their attire? That’s incredibly foolish. You should be embarrassed to be here. Go home and reflect on your actions!"

Miki's excitement for the party and concert had kept her awake for days, further fueled by her admiration for Tawana. She hoped to network with high society, but now, having not even caught a glimpse of Tawana, her grandfather was sending her home to reflect on her behavior. Wouldn’t that mean all her hopes had crumbled?

Thinking about it, she found herself pleading, “Grandpa... I realize I was wrong. Please give me another chance. I promise I won’t judge based on appearances again…”

Unmoved, Taro Sasaki stated firmly, “There’s nothing to negotiate here. Return home now, and don’t disgrace the Sasaki family in front of everyone!”

Watching her grandfather's unwavering resolve, Miki's eyes filled with tears, on the brink of begging when someone rushed over, announcing to Mitsui Nagayasu, “Mr. Mitsui! The master, the eldest lady, and Tawana’s motorcade have arrived!”
