Chapter 6022

The private doctor sensed that Hank was eager to return to the United States, so he promptly conducted a thorough physical examination, which seemed somewhat excessive and exaggerated. Nevertheless, he chose not to speak much, as he had facilitated Hank's access to these resources and was providing him with services. He stood to gain financially from both sides: Hank would pay him a fee, and the hospital would also offer him a commission. Therefore, he professionally contacted the hospital staff to initiate the physical examination without delay. The first test was a blood draw. Because a variety of standard tests, along with specialized tumor marker tests, were necessary, the doctor collected four tubes of blood from Hank in quick succession. Just before the nurse removed the needle, Hank suddenly remembered something and said, "Wait, please draw more blood. I want a comprehensive toxin screening to check for any poison exposure or unusual heavy metals and radioactive elements in my system." The nurse was puzzled but complied, taking three more tubes of blood to add the toxin, heavy metal, and radioactive substance testing to his order. Without any delay, the blood samples were sent directly to the laboratory for analysis. In most hospital settings, results could take at least half an hour or even several days to be processed. However, in this case, since all resources were dedicated exclusively to Hank, he could expect all results to be available before dawn. Once the blood was drawn, Hank immediately provided a urine sample, and the nurse arranged for him to lie on a mobile bed, beginning the series of examinations across different departments. For Hank, he had no need to worry; he simply lay back and let the doctors take care of everything. The nurses first brought him to the ultrasound room for a comprehensive ultrasound examination. Fortunately, the ultrasound showed that all his organs were normal, with no issues detected in the pancreas and pancreatic head. The ultrasound technician smiled and said, "Sir, with my over 30 years of experience, I can assure you that your internal organs and lymphatic system appear healthy, especially your pancreas, which looks quite good." Hank inquired, "So there are no signs of pancreatic cancer?" The doctor replied with a smile, "No signs of that, no abnormal swelling or unusual lesions. Overall, everything looks very healthy." He continued, "However, keep in mind that ultrasound can only assess certain organs. I still recommend a chest CT to check your lungs for any abnormalities, as ribs sometimes obstruct visibility, making it difficult for ultrasound or X-rays to provide a clear assessment." Hank's personal doctor added, "Mr. Hank, if you're still somewhat worried, we could proceed with an enhanced CT scan, but it would require injecting a contrast agent that carries some level of radioactivity and potential side effects." Hank felt reassured after hearing the doctor's explanation. Since the ultrasound showed no issues, he suspected he might have been misled by Charlie. After all, how could human eyesight compete with Doppler ultrasound technology? He reflected inwardly, "Honestly, how foolish of me. How could I trust his human to detect internal lesions? Wade said something, and I foolishly believed it… I was scared for nothing..." Recalling that an enhanced CT involved an injection of a contrast agent, he remembered his previous experience with a full-body scan, where the needle was painfully inserted into his wrist, and the radioactive contrast agent was uncomfortable. He told the doctor, "Forget about the enhanced CT; let's just go with a standard CT scan."

At that moment, the ultrasound technician suggested, "Sir, since you're opting for a CT, why not get a full-body scan? It would offer a more comprehensive view, and with the contrast agent, even the smallest lesions would stand out clearly." "No, no," Hank replied, waving his hand. "I had a full-body scan during my last physical just three months ago. It showed everything was fine apart from my hemorrhoids, and I've been told the radioactivity from that procedure is relatively high. It's recommended to do it once a year at most, and I've already had two this year, so I can't do it again." He then told the private doctor, "Please arrange for a standard CT scan. After that, set up a room for me to rest while we wait for the blood test results. I plan to leave early tomorrow morning." The private doctor nodded in agreement. "Understood. I'll make the arrangements now." Feeling relieved, Hank underwent the standard CT scan alongside the doctor. The technician overseeing the CT found no issues, which reinforced Hank's confidence in his own judgment. Afterward, he settled into the hospital's most luxurious private suite. Lying on the bed, he vented his frustrations to over ten others in a chat group: "Honestly, that guy Wade really had me going. In the end, the examinations showed nothing wrong at all. I'm starting to think he's just a scam artist entertaining himself with me!" Someone asked, "That's strange. How did we end up impotent then?" Hank replied, "I'd prefer the idea of poisoning over anything else." He quickly added, "By the way, I've had blood drawn for toxic substances, heavy metals, and radioactive material testing. I expect the results in the morning." Another person queried, "If we do find out what poison was involved and can get the antidote, will we still have to pay that Wade guy?" Hank responded, feeling disheartened, "Yes, we have to! If it turns out to be poisoning, we'll need to revisit this whole situation. Wade may not have any real abilities, but he could be working in cahoots with Steve Rothschild!" Angelo exclaimed, "Wait, are you suggesting that this whole thing was really Steve's setup to swindle us?" Hank nodded and said, "I’m just saying we can’t rule that out. After all, that’s a billion dollars per person—over ten billion in total!" "That makes sense!" Angelo chimed in eagerly, "The more I think about it, the more you make sense! Do you think there's something going on between Steve and Tawanna? While he's engaged with her, he protects her while plotting revenge against us?" "Damn..." Hank gritted his teeth in frustration. "Angelo, your reasoning is sound! It just feels off. Why would Steve Rothschild, the second-in-command of his family, act so deferential toward a Chinese guy? It doesn’t add up. Your perspective sheds light on everything—maybe this is all just an act to fool us!" Angelo was furious. "What a jerk! He puts all that effort into messing with us, and he’s really just using it to woo women? I swear I’ll expose this and ruin both his and Tawanna’s reputations!”
